Before I started this show, I had a huge case of stage fright. Thanks to Bec and Jack for giving me wonderful pep talks. And not to mention the whisky and coke I sipped before hand. Heh. Technical difficulties managing WinAmp’s playlists were causing me a bit of grief during this three-hour experience, but nonetheless, everything ended up going in ways that were fun, and in ways that I never expected. Before the show started, I worked out a semblance of a theme, but as soon as the show began, I realized it was going to be nothing like what I’d planned. Thanks to Bec for hitting her head on her desk at the start of the show. Heh. In an instant, the theme morphed into blindness-related accidents and injuries. Farhan had the most stories of anyone. John, who tends to squeeze in a call or message or two when he feels is most advantageous, also captured the show with his special moments. The subtext of the show was interesting and unexpected with an amazing number of people who have roller-skated, rollerbladed, ice-skated, and other wheel-related activities. Where was I when these opportunities were available? I need to try these things now. That’s all I know. An interesting note: Limbo Rock was everyone’s most popular roller-skating song. Though Amy’s migraine caused her to miss the show, I was gifted with the addition of three new live listeners, Dan, Sarah, and Nick. Patrick took the time to both listen and call from his mobile phone, and I was treated to a call from Kevin on a break while working, who made time to add his story of “flight from the top step without a deck.” The show was laid back, relaxed, and just what the Sunday evening needed to make the weekend complete and to prepare us all for the week to come.

The theme for this week's show did not come until two days before it aired. Though the situation that inspired the show is sad, the resulting show was very uplifting for me and did wonders for my spirit. I decided that I had to make something positive to come from my situation. Then it came to me. “Ah yes. This week's show should be a tribute to friends!” And so it was.

The show begins with my traditional call from Amy and then a welcome call from Donald Duck. As I share some of the details of my situation, I am surprised to find myself beginning to get tears in my eyes right there on my own show. John, however; brightens the mood and sets the stage for a very interesting evening.

This show is filled with recordings of funny and touching experiences that go back as far as 1993. We hear a recording of a show that Patrick and I did when he visited me in Portland. This features a Patrick with his head in a sink, a set of stereo mics, and his power to “just add water” to make me laugh perhaps the hardest I have laughed in my life! I challenge you to put on a pair of headphones during this segment and keep a straight face. I don’t think anyone can do it. Trust me; you don’t want to miss out on this combination of Patrick “mouth peeing” and Mary Ann laughter!

Given this is a tribute to friends, I could not forget about my dear friend, Amy. I play a recording of my trip to visit her last Thanksgiving. In this segment, we hear what it sounds like when I do a strange-voiced cause/effect analysis by assuming that lovingly squishing cute little dogs can make phone numbers appear in directory assistance. I think my “talk to the animals” voice offers a major dose of unbelievable Mary Ann incrimination. It is only fitting then, that we get to hear Amy and her family (complete with their own original collection of voices) educating us about, of all things, tryptophan and colicky babies.

This show winds up with a final call from Amy who recreates her childhood rendition of the funniest version of The Colonel Bogey March that you’ve ever heard, complete with laughter that compares to that of an old man. Whether you listen to the show or not, you must hear Amy perform this isolated and hilarious version for the audience. Thanks to John for researching the title of this track and for providing the edited sample for your listening enjoyment.

With touching phone calls, fun recordings, and stories that are sure to make you smile, this show truly allows the listener to get to know the Mary Ann behind the microphone.

Extra notes: John was inspired to take the orchestral version of "The Colonel Bogey March" found at the link above and combine it with Amy's isolated incrimination. Put'em together and what do you got? Find out here! When we were kids, I always used to make her do this in her cute little strange way that only she can do. It made me laugh 19 years ago and it still makes me laugh to this day. When you download and listen to John's new and improved version, you will see how his magical creativity found a way to make it even more hilarious! This, is, priceless! Note that you will not find this special version in the show.

This show ended up being quite fun despite my uptight start. After the first 30 minutes and the addition of a bottle of wine, the show turned out to be all that my show is supposed to be – relaxing. With wine in hand, I raise two glasses (and encourage all listeners to do the same) in toast to various aspects of my life and the lives of others in the wonderful circle that surrounds me. The show was finally under way! Amy and I had great fun revealing the results of our Kitchen and Eating Events poll that we designed and hosted a few weeks ago. Since the poll called for the sharing of funny kitchen blunders, this lead to the perfect opportunity for listeners to call and write in to share stories of their own. We end the segment with a grand finale of the story of Derek’s whistling biscuits. This lead to sharing an excerpt from the Reverend Bigdawg Christmas2006 CD, as well as my Barry Manillow track of the week. However, this show would not have been complete without sharing a small, yet fun tribute to Amy set to music that I made last year. The show winds down with me finishing the entire bottle of wine and playing a track in promotion of Kevin Reeves’ album, "It's About time." I don't usually just go around promoting music, but this album stops me in my tracks every time I listen so I thought I'd share it with you. Thanks to all who shared their stories. I hope you enjoy this three hour and 35 minute show. Amy's Additions: As usual when you're hangin' out with Mary Ann, hilarity ensues! Mary Ann is recovering from a day of much running around and so she's all tense until she has some wine. From that point on, it is truly an evening of Kickin' Back with Mary Ann! We hear all about fuzzy cookies, blackened cupcakes, fried soup and toasted grass, Derek's whistling biscuits (complete with sound affects), exploding stoves, and why it's probably a bad idea to let John play with the condiments at the IHOP and mix them with coffee! mmmmmmmm. Hot sauce and syrup and sweeten low and coffee! Can we say bottoms up fellas? We are introduced to barfing Becky, and her fizzing popping candies! It's like a weird public service announcement about why an entire package of sour apple PopRocks in your mouth all it once is really really bad! There is no wording that can do it justice. We are also treated to, in my opinion, a not-so-hilarious and incriminating file that Mary Ann made about me last year! Hehhehhehhehhehaah. I have to say that it is truly a great way to spend a very relaxing Sunday evening, so if you have not had the chance to tune in, I suggest that you block out some time from 9:00PM-11:00PM eastern, pour a nice glass of wine or make a relaxing cup of tea, and "kick back," with Mary Ann. I promise: you'll be glad you did!

Well, I did it, Folks. I Went and did my first scheduled broadcast on The Beyond Radio Network. At TBRN, the internet-based radio shows are spontaneous, informal, and fun. When you broadcast a show, you can be yourself because this is not a typical radio station in that there are no guidelines. The point of the network is to promote a fun place to share a bit of yourself with anyone who wants to listen. And so I did that very thing. During my first show, listeners were greeted with an amazingly funny introduction that came in after the show started. Thanks to John for livening the show with his creation. I introduce you to excerpts from the Mary Ann audio Pholdo abbums, we watch me put my foot in my mouth so much so that it should be stuck there for weeks, we get introduced to my dearest friend Amy in the whole world, we watch what happens to Barry Manillow after Patrick gets hold of him, take lots of calls, we share a final moment to talk about how love isn’t only for Valentine’s Day, and more. It was fun. I enjoyed it. So if you want to hear me at the height of incrimination to date, enjoy this two-hour show. Amy adds a twist to show notes from a listener's point of view that is sure to bring a smile to your face. Her notes will be included in mine when available. Amy Additions: Mary Ann by herself has enough stuff to make things hilarious with all kinds of incriminating recordings, but things got rolling due to the most awesomest intro I think in the history of TBRN radio ever! Thanks to John, it was an incredible beginning to her show! Yes, it was truly intro-tastic! Some trivia for you: Mary Ann, secretly longs to have sweet nothings both whispered in her ear as well as sent to her through the mail. If your response to that is "huh?" then you will certainly find out what this means when you listen to the show. Mary Ann, all little and tiny and cuuuute though she is, really, really, really, really, really snores! I, mean, snores! I mean like sawing some huge lumber in a very wooded forest kind of snoring! I'm talking like earth shaking snoring! Don't believe me? Listen to the show archive, and jump your time while playing to exactly 22:00. Make sure that you're listening with headphones. Now: Listen carefully. Hear that in the background of the "Mary Ann" song? That's, her, honker, going at it! It totally amazes me that that sound came out of her! I'd say that it was snore-tastic but I'm not sure that there is any way possible that snoring like that could be considered fantastic or any variation thereof. It might not be worthy of a variation on fantastic, but it is damn funny!! Now, in the same file jump back in time a little to 21:58, so that you can listen to and totally appreciate John's awesome and rockin' intro, which pretty much lumps Mary Ann and her various degrees if silliness (some even at warp speed). Ok. Now, feel free to listen to the rest of the show from beginning to end at your leisure.
